On January 9, 2020, the Walk with Jesus 2020 procession took place in Cebu City. Also called the ‘Dawn Procession’, Walk with Jesus is considered a very important Sinulog tradition in the city. The event, which began at 4 in the morning, officially marked the start of the yearly Sinulog festivities.
Walk with Jesus 2020
Despite the lack of sleep and the un-ending drizzle (which almost managed to keep me in bed), I was able to drag myself out of the house at around 3 am. Then, I drove straight towards Jones Avenue where a large crowd had already gathered. Although I knew that I was going to be very sleepy in the morning, I couldn’t dare miss this event. This just happens to be one of my most favorite events during the entire Sinulog season.
Here are some shots I managed to take during the event. As always, I hope you like them as much as I enjoyed covering this event.
At around 4:15, devotees started to fill the Osmena Boulevard.
Fifteen minutes later, the head of the dawn procession arrived at the Cebu City Sports Center area. It was where I was situated.
This was followed by a flow of devotees silently marching towards the Basilica.
Despite the rain, the number of people present was still unbelievable.
Around one hour later, the image, which was placed in a carriage finally arrived.
Unbelievable Crowd
Like in previous years, the crowd quickly tripled. A lot of them were ‘traveling’ with the carriage. The flow then spilled on the other side of the road.
Here is a quick action shot of the moving carriage that carried the image of Senyor Santo Nino. During this shot, it passed underneath the Abellana National High School skywalk.
It was then followed by an even thicker and more packed crowd. It was truly a sight to behold.
