On January 9, 2020, a very important Sinulog tradition took place in Cebu City. The event, which began at 4 n the morning, officially marked the start of the yearly Sinulog festivities in the city. The name of the event was Walk with Jesus 2020.
Despite the lack of sleep and the un-ending drizzle (which almost managed to keep me in bed), I was able to drag myself out of the house at around 3 am and drive towards Jones Avenue where a large crowd had already gathered. Although I knew that I was going to be very sleepy in the morning, I couldn’t dare miss one of my most favorite events during the entire Sinulog season.
Here are some shots I managed to take during the event. As always, I hope you like them as much as I enjoyed covering this event.
At around 4:15, devotees started to fill the Osmena Boulevard.
Fifteen minutes later, the head of the dawn procession arrived at the Cebu City Sports Center area where I was situated.
This was followed by a massive flow of devotees silently marching towards the Basilica.
Despite the drizzle which, every once in a while grows in strength, the number of people present was still extremely awe-inspiring.
Around an hour later, the entourage which surrounded the main carroza finally arrived.
Like in previous years, the crowd tripled (a lot of them were ‘traveling’ with the carroza and the flow spilled on the other side of the road.
Here is a quick action shot of the moving carroza or carriage which carried the image of Senyor Santo Nino as it passed underneath the Abellana National High School skywalk.
The carriage was followed by an even thicker and more packed crowd. It was truly a sight to behold.
