Here are more vintage photos from the SSC-Cebu Heritage threads. They are compiled on Flickr by Salin Sa Gubat.
These photos were taken during the Liberation of Cebu. You will see how our beloved Queen looked like immediately after the war. Take a close look at the photos and imagine how life was back then.
This right here is the downtown area of present-day Cebu. This was the result of non-stop bombing. That stucture near the top is the Cebu Provincial Capitol. Below it is the Vision Theatre which still stands today.
Here is a shot of Vision Theatre in 1945.
The aftermath of war. Most of the nice homes in the city were ‘roofless’ after the bombings.
Some more photos of Cebu. Im not sure about their dates, though. They were probably taken before the war. This one is a photo of the City Central School.
A shot of the old Calamba Cemetery.
The church and convent of the Danao Church.
San Jose Recoletos church and convent.
The label says Santa Cruz Chapel. The Magellan’s Cross kiosk was probably onced called Santa Cruz Chapel.
Thanks to the SSC-Cebu Heritage Thread peeps and Salin Sa Gubat.
The facade of the City Central School is still the same as it is today. The adjacent Abellana National School has changed though.

During the days of Tartanilla the cocheros will take you to Magellan’s Cross if you say Santa Cruz. That was how my gandma directed them for her weekly ride to Sto. Nino from Don Pedro Cui.

My mother experience WW2, she was only 10 yrs old. She told us about her experience, makalooy kaayo.
Looks like nothing is left of the pictured Recoletos Church and Convent. With the relatively new church now, I never thought they had a strong presence in Cebu during the Spanish era. Thanks for the pics, it makes me proud we are able to preserve some bits of our heritage.
