The Theotokos Shrine in Carcar City holds a special place in my heart. Aside from having so much history and cultural importance, it is also one of the very first spots I visited as a solo travel photoblogger. It’s been years since my last visit which is why I was super grateful for the chance to do so recently.
Theotokos Shrine

The Theotokos Shrine is a pilgrimage site located on a hilltop in Carcar City. The shrine is known for its beautiful white statue of Mother Mary, which overlooks the city of Carcar. The shrine also has several other religious statues and features, including a Stations of the Cross.

After More Than a Decade
The shrine itself hasn’t changed much over the years. The giant white statue of Mama Mary is still as impressive as ever, and the views from the hilltop are still breathtaking. However, I noticed a few subtle changes like better facilities for church-goers and more spaces to relax and meditate for the visitors to the shrine.

Despite these changes, the Theotokos Shrine remains a place of peace and reflection. I spent some time wandering around the grounds, taking in the sights and sounds. Of course, I also lit a candle and said a prayer for my myself and my loved ones.

My revisit to the Theotokos Shrine was a truly nostalgic experience. It was a reminder of the beauty and serenity of this special place. It also brought me back to the early days of blogging during which I worked extra hard to travel to various spots in Cebu just to share photos and stories with my readers.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, I highly recommend taking the time to visit the Theotokos Shrine in Barangay Perrelos. It’s a place that is sure to leave a lasting impression. And, who knows, you too could have a wonderful story to share about it in the future.
