After our ‘muddy adventure‘ at the San Isidro Cave, our next stop was Tompar’s Farm in Barangay Lunas, in the town of Asturias. Tompar’s Farm is owned by Sir Tony Tompar, the same guy who owns St. Anthony Beach Resort – my favorite budget-friendly family resort in Asturias.
Tompar’s Farm
Tompar’s Farm is quite close to Barangay Tubigagmanok where the resort is located. However, it took us almost an hour to get to Barangay Lunas from Barangay San Isidro (where the cave was). Fortunately, it was an afternoon of excitement and good food. Otherwise, I would’ve focused too much on my motion sickness and spent most of my time in one corner. Puking. Haha.
Welcome to Tompar’s Farm!
This little set-up greeted us the moment we arrived. There were coffee seedlings, ripe coffee cherries, and some of the farm’s products.
These are some of the freshly-produced stuff from Tompar’s Farm. They have ground coffee as well as whole-fruit coffee. Interesting, right?
Here’s a closer look at the freshly picked coffee cherries. They look like mansanitas, but smaller.
Here’s a look at the farm. Yes, I know. I also thought that it would be a huge open field of coffee plants, but I was wrong. In fact, we were informed that this was a better set-up because aside from growing other fruits, coffee plants are known to grow better in the shade of other bigger trees.
The coffee trees are hard to miss, however. With their familiar leaves and those unmistakable tiny fruits, you could spot them quite easily.
Coffee Picking
Sir Tony Tompar gave us quick instructions before letting us explore and ‘pick’ our own coffee cherries. Exciting!
He told us to not pick the green ones as they were not ripe yet.
The ripe ones look really pretty!
That’s me finally picking my first-ever coffee cherry!
Aside from looking cute, they also look delicious!
We were each given rolled-up banana leaves where we could store the fruits that we picked. Here’s Cyka with her harvest.
And here’s Dookie who was so happy to find his own tree with plenty of ripe fruits!
Here, he carefully picked the ripe ones while also making sure that the green ones were safe.
Someone’s happy with his ‘catch.’ Haha.
Into the banana leaf, you all go!
Time to Eat!
After almost an hour of coffee picking, it was time to head back to the reception area. There, we were greeted with delicious local treats! We got biko, bingka, budbud, and more! Yum!
Then, we also got to try the super fresh ‘straight-from-the-farm’ coffee!
We spent another hour just enjoying the delicious snacks prepared for us.
Finally, since it was starting to get dark, we got one final photo before we all called it a day.
Stay tuned for more Cebu adventures!
