During our most recent trip to Bantayan Island, our host recommended that we visit Baigad Lagoon. It was not originally part of our plans, but since we had some time to explore, we decided to do it!
Did I like it? I think I did. 🙂
A Different Side of Bantayan
When you think of Bantayan Island, the first thing that probably comes to mind is its beaches.
The island is known for its long stretches of sand, clear waters, and laid-back beach atmosphere. But Baigad Lagoon offers something a little different.

Located in Barangay Baigad, the lagoon has a more enclosed setting, surrounded by trees and greenery. The water was calm during our visit, giving the place a quiet and relaxed feel.
Indeed, it was a nice change from the more familiar beach areas of Bantayan.

What makes the visit more memorable for me is that we probably would not have gone if a friend had not recommended it.
This is one of the things I enjoy about traveling with friends or talking to people who know a destination well. You sometimes get to discover places that are not necessarily on your original list. And Baigad Lagoon was exactly that.

We just followed the recommendation, made our way to Baigad, and spent some time exploring the area. There was no elaborate plan. We just wanted to see the place for ourselves.
Baigad Lagoon
Baigad Lagoon has a simple, natural setting. There are areas where visitors can sit and enjoy the surroundings, just playing on the sand or in the water. The lagoon itself is the main attraction, with its calm waters and tropical surroundings.
Depending on the conditions, visitors can also swim and enjoy other water activities. For me, however, the best part was simply being there and taking in the scenery.
A resort at the mouth of the lagoon is popular among both locals and visitors. Sitting on the sandbar, the resort allows its guests to enjoy the open sea on one side and the more protected and calmer water on the other side.

It is the kind of place where you can slow down for a while. Take a ton of photos, look around, enjoy the water, and just spend some time away from the busier parts of the island.
Even after several visits to Bantayan Island, I still find it interesting how there are places I have not seen before.

Most trips naturally focus on the popular beaches, restaurants, and attractions. There is nothing wrong with that, but sometimes it is worth listening to recommendations from people who have explored the island more.
And I tell you, Baigad turned out to be a pleasant little side trip.
If you have already explored Bantayan’s popular beaches and have extra time in your itinerary, Baigad Lagoon is a place you can consider adding.

It may not have the same beach setting that Bantayan is famous for, but that is also what makes it interesting. The lagoon offers a quieter experience and a chance to see another side of the island.
Baigad Lagoon was an unexpected addition to our Bantayan Island trip, and definitely one of the places I’ll remember from this visit.
