On January 12, 2024, more than a week before the Sinulog Grand Parade, the City of Cebu held the Sinulog 2024 Launching Parade. The event, which officially marks the start of the Sinulog festivities in Cebu City, is an annual crowd favorite because it features contingents that don’t normally join the annual grand parade. Traditionally, the launching event begins at the Basilica and ends at the Cebu City Sports Center. Some of Cebu City’s top schools and universities usually join the event.

The scouts, each one carrying a Philippine flag, led this year’s parade.
Some of Cebu’s top beauty queens were also present during the event.
A local biker’s group also took part in the parade.
Like all the previous parades, this year’s event featured dancers in traditional Sinulog costumes.
The parade also featured groups wearing traditional clothes from different regions. Since the Sinulog is basically a religious event, many people from other ethnic, cultural, and religious groups voiced their concerns and disapproval. This ended up being quite a controversy with many sectors getting involved.
