After two long years, the Sinulog sa Kabataan is finally back! This year, however, the event for both Lalawigan and Dakbayan were held in one single day. This was done to jive with Sinulog’s goal of uniting the entire Cebu Island. And knowing how Sinulog-hungry Cebuanos have become due to the pandemic and the typhoon, I knew there was one thing that I needed to do.
And you guessed it right. I arrived at the venue super early. Of course, I didn’t want to miss this event. And also because I just wanted to get a good seat. Hehe. And true enough, my plan worked! The event was scheduled for 2 pm but I was already at the venue at 9:30 am. And it was all worth it – I got a pretty sweet spot very close to the center of the grandstand.
By noon the crowd had swelled and the grandstand was jam-packed. Thankfully, for the early birds like me, we were just in our seats, eating lunch or snacks or both.

Finally, at 2 pm, the program officially began. In this photo, two Sinulog Idol contestants get ready to sing the opening prayer.
After the opening prayer and the national anthem, Vice Mayor Garcia officially opened the program.
Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama also made a quick appearance. And promising to keep it short, he stayed on stage for just about a minute.
Finally, the first group came up on stage to get ready to perform. Group 1 was from El Pardo.

I have to say that I am very proud of Lumad Basakanon for giving such a solid performance this year. Good luck, guys!
The day’s surprise favorite was Barangay Tejero. They dazzled with their amazing dance and costumes.

One of the most applauded numbers was that of the group from CTU/Moalboal. The crowd was literally shouting ‘daug na! daug na!’ after their number.
After the last performer, the dancers were asked to gather for the singing (and dancing) of I Love Cebu.
