In Photos: Cebu Goes Green

Yesterday, June 9, a portion of Jones Avenue was closed to traffic. The event was called “Greenfest Sa Sugbu” (Greenfest in Cebu). The theme for this year’s two-day event was “Our Coasts, Our Heritage”. I’m not sure what the greenfest is about but I think it’s a yearly event which features and promotes different organizations, products and projects which help keep Cebuanos become aware of the important environmental issues here in Cebu.

Native handbags! (and Madam Gabucan. hehehe. Hi madam!)

I was busy taking pictures when I saw a familiar face. I approached her to say hi and she readily recognized me. “Leylan! Kumusta na man ka dong?”, she asked. I totally remember her face but her name slipped my mind. I began to feel a little nervous. “Madam Avanceña!”, I said. “We were always together but no, I’m not Madam Avanceña”, she said smiling. I blushed. Toinks!

I later learned that it’s Madam Gabucan. Peace Madam! She was my Home Economics teacher at UP High. Now, she’s an entrepreneur and business is doing pretty well! Yay! I’m glad that her skills and knowledge as an HE teacher were put to good use.

It’s always nice to see familiar faces again. Thank god she’s not like those teachers who become snotty when you accidentally meet them somewhere. Madam Gabucan is still chatty and upbeat.

Good luck with your business, madam! Hinaot nana kay factory inig sunod nato kita. 🙂

Her products include these tasty AMPAOs…

…and AMPAO Cubee (with nuts, raisins, dried mango bits, and sesame seeds). Yummy!
