Catmon Is Hot!

A few weeks ago, my friends and I decided to go to the northern town of Catmon to visit our classmate in college who lives there. The plan was to crash her place and check out the awesome spots in the area. We were really excited to check out Mainit Hot Spring and Ka-Tingo Falls.

We left for Catmon on April 16 at around 8 in the evening. The bus was jam-packed because it was a Friday. Good thing I was seated next to a guy who talked a lot. It made the trip interesting. We arrived in Catmon at around ten in the evening and we were welcomed by Cheryl to their humble home. We found out, however, that her brother (who works in the city) is currently at home for the weekend. Therefore, we wouldn’t be able to use the available room. LOL.

So, after dinner, we left the house to check out any available rooms in Recuerdo Beach Resort (I’ve featured this resort before). When we got there, however, we were informed that there were no rooms available. So, we were forced to look for another resort. We went to Imelda Aroma Resort next. The resort only has 1 room left. And it was 1800 for one night. It was almost midnight and we figured that it was too expensive considering that we intended to get up at 7. So, we went to yet another resort. Vima Beach Resort. From outside the gate, we could see that the resort was deserted. It was just too quiet (the videoke machine was still blaring in Recuerdo). The habal-habal drivers also didn’t think that it was a good idea to stay there for the night. So, we looked for another resort. The next two resorts that we went to were both no good. We were starting to feel alarmed and worried (there were two kids with us) when the drivers told us to check out ‘Coop.’ Cheryl said that they were referring to the Cooperative Pensionne House just a few hundred meters from the Municipal Hall. So, we decided to go there and see if it was all right.

Catmon’s hottest spot – Mainit Hot Spring!

Anyways, so yeah, we decided to check out the Cooperative Pensionne House. Except for the fact that it stood right next to the North National Road, it looked pretty okay.

We learned that the pensionne house was made for out-of-towners who need to stay in Catmon for the night. Most of their clients are dealers and delivery men. The rooms were pretty neat at 750/two people. They were airconditioned, too. They have a dorm room, however, which could accommodate at least 40 people. It’s also airconditioned and it has clean showers and toilets. It also has a tv set. Each bed space costs 100 pesos. Luckily, there were NO other out-of-towners when we got there. So, we had the entire dorm room to ourselves. Cool.

The next day, we left early to check out the Mainit Hot Spring. We were excited because we didn’t take a shower. LOL. Entrance fee is 100 per person.

Going down!

Nice view on our way down.

Milay going down the steps.

View of the hot hot pool. Awesome.

Tables and chairs for visitors.

Ais just couldn’t wait. He probably didn’t know that the water was warm. LOL.

View of the river below the pool. Gorgeous!

Local kids enjoying an afternoon swim.

A few minutes after we started swimming, a group of old Japanese men arrived and started swimming in their skimpy trunks. Hahahaha. So, we decided to check out the river below. Hehehe. Our tour guide.

The river below the pool.

What a lovely sight. Those roots are creepy, though. Hehe.

We had to use a ladder to get down.

Just keep walking.

This was the deepest part of the river. Like it here.

Checking out the nice rock formations.

Going up, up, up.

Wow. Those rocks are huge.

Local kids ready to jump.

During our river-trek, we saw at least three snake skins. Creepy. Here’s the first one.

Nice view.

More kids enjoying the water.

Second snake skin. Wasn’t able to take a picture of the third one. Hehehe.

Slowly, guys! Basin ma-slide mo pareho nako. Hahaha.

We had to swim across. It was very deep.

And then we saw it. Ka-Tingo Falls. Wow! Just lovely!

Milay and Irene swimming. Hehehe.

Ka-Tingo Falls.

Swimming with our guide.

It was during this stop that I slipped on a muddy rock, hit my ass, and dropped my camera. Good thing it didn’t break into pieces. (Lacey is a fighter! Hehehe. She still worked!!!) After almost an hour of swimming, we decided to go back to the pool.

Local kid jumping into the water.

Quick pose. LOL.

After another hour of swimming, we left the place and took the kids to Imelda Aroma.

Megan enjoying the pool.

Oopps! There goes his undies. LOL.
