I had the chance to visit the lovely city of Bogo last Sunday. However, I wasn’t able to check it thoroughly because we only stopped for a short while to grab something to eat. Sige lang, naa pay next time! Hehehe.
Aside from the Gaisano and a few popular franchises already available in the area, I didn’t notice a lot of changes in Bogo. I’ve been there once when I was a kid. And I could still remember some of the streets and buildings. They were all still there. Hehehe. It’s a good thing, I think, that Bogo is still relatively the same. Life there is still very relaxed and slow. And the people are still smiling.
Overall, my short stay in Bogo was excellent. It made me forget that I drove 100 kilometers from Cebu City to have lunch in Jollibee. Hahaha.
Here are some random photos that I took.
The Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges building. I remember this building so well.
The streets of Bogo. The tricycle is still the main mode of transport in Bogo City.
Bogo now has new establishments and buildings.
A plaza in Bogo City.
Home-made treats in the streets of Bogo!
To the Bogo Church! Too bad I wasn’t able to go there.
Gaisano Bogo!
And there’s the Jollibee! Nice Building!
Visit Bogo City today!

Di jud namo palampason ang chicharon ug dried dangit sa merkado. Few years ago Bogo is the tidest town in Cebu, maybe until now. My sister use to work at Severo Verallo Hospital.

Looks like Bogo is only a big town. Gaisano and Jollibee does not make a town a city. That is why I now understand why its city hood was taken away. However, I like its quaint provincial atmosphere, imagine bananas still growing in the center of the city!
yes rex, these 2 elements dont make Bogo a city,,,,,,,,u better research 1st Y and How Bogo became a city and Y and How SC nullify its citihood…..wag kang burara. taga kantur-aw man gud ka.

Take care.
Hello Ley!! Looks like the moster have struck again. I really enjoy all the latest photos.
There is only one I noticed. I think you are torturing all of us who are out of Cebu. You are very cruel Ley. It’s not fair.
I wish I could grab that bibingka and gorge it. Phew!
Leyland,
Can you tell me how to get to Bogo using public transportation, and where to get it from Cebu City? How long does the trip usually take and are there inexpensive accomodations there? I am going to go backpacking there next month. I appreciate your help.
hi Nokin. you can always go to the north bus terminal. ceres lines buses depart, i think, every 30 minutes. if you want to take the van, go to the terminals either in SM city cebu or Ayala Center Cebu.
Great photos, Ley. I’ve been wanting to go to Bogo since recently discovering its existence. I really want to spend some time there soon. Now if I can only find cheap-enough airfare from Pittsburgh, PA USA. It is FREEZING here right now 😉
I am curious about how Bogo got its name. Would someone mind giving me a brief history of who/what Bogo was named after? Since Bogo is my last name, I am very curious.
My email is joebogo@hotmail.com, in case anybody feels like dropping me a line. Talk to ya soon 😉
Ley,
My mother’s family is from Bogo. I lived there when that park was being built…1985. My father’s family is from Bindoy.

In 1962, I graduated my high school at the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges, and studied two year college leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in accounting, which I pursued said course at the University of Souther Philippines and graduated thereat. For almost seven years stayed in Bogo, I have never encountered a quarrel with somebody because Bogohanons are friendly people. I love Bogo so much not only because the people living thereat are friendly, but also because I felt in love to a beautiful bogohanon – my first love – that I can’t never forget in this lifetime. She still owns the biggest part of my heart. I only love her in spirit and in dreams because we have families of our own. The lapse of time that we have not seen each other for four decades, imagine, l970 our last meeting during my graduation, within which she gave me a bunch of roses as graduation gift. All those years that passed by has no power to induce me to forget her. I think there’s no legal and moral impediments whatsoever for loving her in dreams and in spirit If there is life after death, as I believed there is, I will love that woman for all eternity. For my high school classmates and the woman I am referring to, this is my contact Nos: cell 09394889254; Landline: Home – (062) 225-o436, office – (062) 225-3050
I LOVE BOGO BECAUSE IT WAS THE PLACE THAT I FOUND MY FIRST LOVE. THANKS THAT DESPITE THE MANY BLOCKING WALLS, AT LONG LAST BOGO BECAME A CITY AGAIN.
THIS IS MY NEW CELL NO. 09477684349 BECAUSE I LOST MY CELL PHONE DURING THE KILLER FLOOD ON DECEMBER 17, 2011 DUE TO TROPICAL STORM SENDONG THAT CLAIMED SEVER THOUSAND LIVES AND PROPERTIES. THANKS GOD THAT HE SPARED OUR LIVES. WE WERE AT THE ROOFTOP FROM 12:30 AM TO 6:00 AM OF DECEMBER 217, 2011
thanks for sharing the pics. i see changes all the time in bogo, but only subtle changes, but lots of new buildings now. sorry you weren’t able to see all of them. but, yes, bogo is still a small town and people do still smile.
Ley,
Thank you for the pictures – this gives me a sense of connection to my beloved home town.

I used to live in medellin and daanbatayan. my parents hails from these places. nice beach is my weakness, among others. bogo is close to my heart too because Uncle Nene Almirante and Aunt Pacing Almirante once were Mayors of Bogo in different terms. I still have my relatives there and some friends. Call it frustration for lack of termimology [for now] is the fact that there is no good resto in bogo. Midway from the Cebu City to Medellin-San Remigio-Bantayan-Daanbantayan – and the neighboring islands, with extreme hunger killing ones tummy …the only choice but
no choice are friend chicken and roasted chicken. Past9 PM one can hardly dind a resto. Hope one Bogohanon will realize this business opportunity.
