Rediscovering El Mar Resort in Sogod, Cebu

I honestly didn’t expect to be writing this blog this late, but here we are. After El Mar Resort suddenly went viral for being featured in the Netflix series Boyfriend on Demand, I found myself going through my old photos and travel folders. I clearly remembered visiting the resort before, and in my head, I was convinced I had already published a blog about it.

Turns out… I never did.

So this is me finally putting that experience into words.

So, a while back, I was invited along with fellow Cebu bloggers to the town of Sogod to experience El Mar Resort. It was going to be two fun days at the resort that many described as one of Cebu’s best. And traveling up north, away from the usual city pace, was something that I really needed at that moment.

When we arrived after around three hours of travel, the first thing that stood out was how peaceful everything felt. El Mar Resort isn’t the kind of resort that overwhelms you. Instead, it eases you into a slower rhythm. There are very few people around and you basically have the whole resort to yourself. The architecture, the open spaces, and the way it’s designed around the coastline all contribute to that feeling of escape.

Beaches at El Mar Resort

One of the highlights of the trip for me was getting to enjoy their private beaches. There’s something about having that sense of exclusivity, where it’s not crowded and you can just take in the surroundings at your own pace. The water was clear, the waves were gentle, and it was the kind of place where you could spend hours just sitting by the shore, taking photos, or simply doing nothing at all.

The entire resort has several coves. That’s how massive it is. Only a few, however, can be accessed by the guests.

Rooms at El Mar

Of course, staying at the resort itself was part of the experience. I got to check out and stay in one of their rooms, and let me tell you how spacious and comfortable it was. It had that clean, well-thought-out design that makes you feel at ease right away. And I must say it wasn’t just about aesthetics either. It was functional, relaxing, and exactly what you’d want after a full day under the sun.

This is what our room looked like. I really liked the tone of the room and how it was designed. I also especially love how high the ceiling was.

Dining at El Mar Resort

Food was another thing that I genuinely enjoyed during the stay. Every meal felt like it was carefully prepared, and it added to the overall experience of being at the resort. It’s always a good sign when you look forward to mealtimes during a trip, and El Mar delivered on that.

This is one of the restaurants within the resort where guests can enjoy great food.

On the evening of our first day, we also dined at their second restaurant located close to our room.

What I also appreciated was how the entire experience felt well-paced. There was time to explore, time to rest, and time to just take everything in. It didn’t feel rushed, which is something you don’t always get during these trips.

El Mar Resort

Looking back now, it’s actually funny how I completely forgot to blog about this. Maybe it got buried under other trips, deadlines, and everyday life. Or maybe I just assumed I had already shared it. But seeing El Mar pop up again online because of its Netflix feature felt like a nudge to revisit that memory.

And honestly, it deserves the spotlight it’s getting now.

Revisiting my photos and recalling that trip made me realize how much I appreciated the experience, even if I didn’t write about it right away. It wasn’t just another resort visit. It was one of those quiet, easygoing escapes that stay with you long after you’ve left.

If anything, this blog is long overdue. But maybe that makes it even more meaningful now.
