In Photos: The Great Cebuano Fiesta

Like most Philippine Fiestas (feasts), Cebuanos treat theirs with unbelievable devotion, festivity, and pomp. The usually empty kapilya (chapel) gets a total makeover, the sleepy town square gets plenty of attention, and the family dinner table gets lechon baboy or inasal manok at the very least. Citizens from nearby (and very distant) baranggays gatecrash by the hundreds and colorful individuals who wish to make the most out of the festivity travel in hordes to sell their crafts.

No fiesta is complete without everyone’s favorite – Lechon de Cebu!

For sure, nothing compares to Philippine Fiestas. (Especially when you’re invited and you get to bring the entire family with you.)

Ukay-ukay or UK is never absent during fiestas in rural areas. UKs were present even in Luyang, Carmen.

Mobile stands selling toys and clothes can also usually be found near where the crowds are assembled. You’ll see one when there is a sabong or cockfight.

The main chapel of Sitio Cantipla on a regular day.

The same chapel during the feast day.

Usual fiesta handa include escabeche, lumpia, and pancit.

There’s also the humba, and guisado, and chicken adobo.

Enjoying the amazing view after the sumptuous fiesta lunch. Thank you very much for the invite, beloved hosts! 🙂

Mapa feasts, birth days, weddings and special holidays laging present ang lechon. You don’t need to put liver sauce or mang tomas dahil malasa na ang meat.
