Lapu-Lapu City Opens First Skate Park in Cebu

Last November 16, the city of Lapu-Lapu officially opened the ‘first publicly funded skate park in the country.’ I saw the photos posted by the official FB page of the Lapu-Lapu LGU, and I couldn’t help but feel excited for all the skating enthusiasts in Cebu. Finally, they have a place that’s far from moving traffic where they can train and master the sport. Anyways, of course, I had to check out the new park. I wanted to know if the park really looks awesome in person.

I’m not exactly sure what ‘publicly funded’ means. I’m guessing the project was funded by the government but the budget was taken from the funds set aside for a different specific purpose. It could also be that private individuals helped build this park through donations and pledges. Help me out here, people. I’m lost. Hehe.

Skating has become a very big deal here in Cebu (especially among the young ones.) So, I can only guess how pumped they all are about this new development.

The lot is actually quite big. There’s room for major tournaments, too.

The place is far from the main road and is located right inside the Hoops Dome compound.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if Cebuano skaters rule national championships in the future. 🙂

This may look like a pretty simple project but I’m sure a lot of people are happy. Thanks for this, Lapu-Lapu! The park looks great!
