Cebu’s Newest Landmark

Redjie and I were on our way to Banilad last Saturday when we passed by the recently completed complex of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Lahug. I read in the newspaper that before the complex and the temple (most especially) become fully dedicated, members and even non-members will be allowed to check the place out via guided tours and lectures.

I stepped on the brakes just in front of the complex and told Redjie to ask the guard at the guard house if the place was indeed open to the public. And guess what? The newspaper wasn’t lying. Hehehe. The complex is open even to non-members from May 21 to June 4.

So, Redjie and I didn’t think twice and we both just decided to take this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit a place that means a whole lot to the members of the Church of Latter Day Saints.

View of the Cebu Philippines Temple in Lahug, Cebu City at night.

View of the temple from the street. The temple looks marvelous!

The famous gold statue of Angel Moroni.

View of the park space in front of the temple.

View of the temple and the gorgeous palm trees.

Holiness to the Lord. The House of the Lord.

Those palm trees are going to look really nice in a couple of months.

Very nice side-walks.

I’m not sure but I think those are the living quarters of some members.

Front view of that nice building.

Cebu Business Park highrises. Lovely view!

I’m not sure what this building is called. But this was where the film-showing was held.

See, while we were taking pictures, a member approached us and asked if we were members. We replied that we weren’t. The member suggested that we proceed to that building (pictured above) so that we could join the guided tour. Well, that’s exactly what we did. We walked in and the members greeted us warmly. We were lead to a nice room with a huge tv set in front. There were others who were already there. The film about the history of the LDS was only about 10 minutes long. After the video presentation, the guided tour started. Our tour guides were a nice Cebuano couple. They asked us to turn off our mobile phones and cameras during the tour

The most sacred place on earth for the members. To enter, tour participants must wear foot pads (given right outside the door).

The tour was simply amazing. And the temple was just so so so awesome! The numerous rooms inside were really magnificent. Some of the rooms that I remember were the Baptism Room, the numerous Dressing Rooms (used by members to change from street clothes to all-white garments), Waiting Rooms and the Celestial Room (just magnificent).

The tour ended a few minutes after six. All participants were then lead to an activity hall where we were given free biscuits and fruit drinks.

EXTRA: Our latest trip to LA (Lahug Apas. Hahahaha)

Visit the temple now!

  3. Hello! Im a member of the Church, i just read your article, and i must say, you awesome job! =) Just a little correction, though.. the correct name of the Church is “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints”. Hehe. =) But despite that, great, great coverage. =D

      1. Hi there. The Lord must has its purpose for leading you and your friend that night to L.A. (lahug apas?… love that!). Thank you for following the promptings for the spirit. Had you not followed that prompting, the photos posted and the blog may not have touched so many hearts, including ours. I’m a member of the church and seeing your blog made me more happier and proud to be part of the many who had embraced the gospel and the church into our lives. We’re grateful for the kind words said and for your enormous talent in showing the photos. Thank you so much. Just a few add-ons, the nice building which housed the members or the church coming from outside Cebu province is the Patron House. This will help the members prepare themselves better in performing sacred ordinances for the living and the dead which are done only inside the holy house of the Lord. While the building where the video showing was done before the tempe tour is the new stake center. Again, Thank you so very much for the beautiful photos posted. Indeed, the temple be it in its exterior and interior beauty is totally… breathtaking! Heavenly Father will bless you for sure!

  4. Thank you so much for posting the beautiful pictures of the Temple. Great job! My heart is full. I love the Temple so much. It is indeed THE HOUSE OF THE LORD.

  5. Hi there! I must say “splendid work” on the photos and blog you posted about the church. Thank you so much. This made me more proud to be part of the church and be able to touch the hearts of the cebuano’s in our simple little way. Just a few add-ons, the nice building is indeed the living quarters or the Patron House where members of our church from outside cebu province who comes to the temple to do sacred ordinances for the living and the dead. While the other beautiful building where the video was shown is the new Stake Center. We’re grateful for the kind words said in your blog. Thank goodness you followed the promptings of the spirit the night you passed by the area (L.A.. lahug apas?… loved it!). Had you not followed the promptings, the photos and your blog would not have been made possible. Thank you for sharing what you felt during the short visit. Heavenly Father must be so proud you have used your talent and skills fully. He will continue to bless you more.. and abundantly!

  6. The nice building is called patron house; it houses members who travel from far-away provinces while they attend services at the temple. The two-wing building building where film showing were held is a meetinghouse that is used for Sunday services. A meetinghouse that is also referred to as a stake (diocese) center because members of several units (wards) gather for some functions , includes a chapel, cultrual hall, classrooms, offices, baptistry and seminar/training rooms.

  7. Nice jud kau, thanx Ley.

  11. gud day po s inyo… i am yam frm cebu, actually i already saw the picture of L.D.S. its very beautiful structure they have and i was amazed in the temple. but i have some things in my mind that i want some answers about on the property or the previous house of that temple… i was in grades school in USP lahug, many people say that the previous house in that temple was hunted, so i like some details about it.. noong una kc maraming mga malalaking puno at that area, there are 2 houses on the hill side on the left when you enter the gate and in right side another house on the back… paano nila pinutol lahat ng puno? eh! may mga old trees p doon…. still now it is very weird to me… i want to share this one because i want some answers…
please post a comment about this one

    1. yes maraming puno dun dati. pero bago nila putulin yun is pinapaalam muna nila ito sa government ng cebu. bawal kasi pumutol ng puno ng walang permiso, basin ilang gibalhin sa lain na yuta hehehe, LOL

  12. I am so thankful you guys that you make a very nice pictures on our Temples and other buildings of the church. You know what? you are still can get inside the complex and visit our distribution where you can buy books, posters, DVD that will help you know more of our beliefs. By the way our distribution open from tuesday to friday from 9am til 6:30 pm and saturday til 2pm. Our books and DVD are very affordable and you can have it for less than 50 pesos and other church publications with almost the same price so try to visit it now to know more about the plan of our Heavenly father for us called the Plan of happiness or the Plan of salvation.

  13. @yam: Don’t bother yourself though, the property is not yours anyway. Just leave that worries to anybody who will enter the place… But for sure the place is sacred and dedicated to Only God who is our Father in Heaven the Father of the Only Begotten Son who is Jesus Christ and happens to be our brother in Spirit… if you have any question regarding to my comment please ask the missionaries. They are finding people to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Some questions I’d like to leave you: Why there is a Mormon when our Church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? Where is Mormon from? Why we are called a Mormon? (for sure that is only a nickname of our Church the non-members called us that).

Anyway, Thanks for the nice blog…hope someday you will find interest why we members of this Church love this Beautiful Edifice.

  14. hi there, i stumbled across your blog searching for something. it’s a really nice blog…the photos look beautiful. you’re so blessed to have entered the temple 🙂 thanks for posting this blog, it’s really nice 🙂 and i agree with the other commenters, the name of the church is “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.” it would be highly appreciated by a multitude if you’d correct that. 🙂 but it’s okay haha enough people have explained already haha 🙂 God bless!
