Crossing The Line

So, yeah. After much deliberation, I decided to shell out 650 pesos to get a Sinulog Photographer’s ID.

I got the ID not only because I didn’tΒ  want to be trapped behind police/tanod/ROTC/CITOM lines while other people stepped on my feet and my face, but also because I’ve never been inside the sports complex during the big Sinulog Day.

This is going to be my first time so I’m a bit nervous. What would the other photographers (the real ones who are using those really powerful dslr cameras) say if they saw me point-and-shooting with them? Hahaha. Are they gonna laugh at me? What about the road-side spectators? I’ve been a roadside spectator all my life and I’ve always hated photographers blocking my view in order to find a really nice ‘angle’. These spectators can be mean. But they can easily forgive especially if your camera is two meters long. LOL. But what about those point-and-shooters? How are they going to treat me/us? LOL.

All these things crossed my mind. Pretty shallow, you might say, but they’re real issues that I’d surely have to face this Sunday. Hahaha.

I’m happy, and excited, and scared. But I’ll give this gig a try. After all, this is one experience I’m very willing to take. πŸ™‚

  1. that’s the spirit! why would you be scared about pitting your point & shoot cameras with those professional dslr ……………… show them what you can do and i know you will.
looking forward to seeing those pictures!

  2. Relax, you’ll be okay. Don’t worry, they won’t notice you, they’ll be very busy shooting pics themselves. πŸ™‚ Good luck!

  3. You’re alright there Ley. You can position infront of the stage, as i saw them 2 yrs ago. Whatever the result of your cam, i still love and appreciate it. W/o you how i witness the Sinulog 2010. cheers

  4. Ley, I’m glad you got a sinulog photographer’s ID.
Ikaw gyud amo pag-asa nga makita ang Sto Nino procession ug sa Sinulog Parade. Pls include also the Fluvial Parade which I guess starts at Ouano’s Wharf. I am excited too, to see the photos. Yeahhh!
    Good Luck!

  5. if i was in ur shoes, i would think, “geeze i paid P650, i better get my money’s worth” & just try not to think about the other photographers… remember a camera is just a tool & it really comes down to the person behind the camera that determines the result of the images πŸ™‚

  6. Leyland,
It’s not the camera, its the picture, and you have already proven your ability to take good shots. Keep it clean, simple, focused and honest. I would also pay attention to colors, actions, and shots that conveys sounds. That ID you just purchased is a very good investment. Find a pro who is friendly, they are alway willing to give good tips. Good luck and make this a good learning experience.

  7. Leyland,
That’s a money well spent. I know you can do this. You already have proven your ability behind the camera. It’s not the photo equipment, its the picture that matter. Just a reminder, keep your shots clean, simple, focused and honest, esp in an event like this. Colors and action will go a long way. Most of all have fun and share your photos.

  8. Ley,

Good luck sa imong pagka-opisyal maniniyot sa Sinulog 2010! We know that you’re doing this for your readers as well, so SALAMAT kaayo! May the weather cooperates….Viva Pit Senor Santo Nino! VIVA!

  9. Ley,

It’s the photographer that makes the pic and not the camera. Keep your eyes and ears and heart open and be ready to capture what you see. Many pros are just snapping away without looking around finding the best shot. Capture what you see and what the others missed. I wish you luck!

  10. Ley, don’t worry about the quality of the pics. You always have a good “eye” on what to take so that is what kept all of us going back to your blog. What is important is we see the pulse of Sinulog in your “eyes” since we can not see it physically for us outside Cebu.
Looking forward to more Sinulog activities update! PIT SENYOR kang Ley kini!!!!!!

  11. hi there. this is out of topic, but i just wanna ask if you and Ruel Romarate are related to each other… he was a board topnotcher from USJR.

  12. Hala ka Ley usa diay ka sa mga photographers nga akong gikalagutan gahapon hehehe…kasamok uy dili na man lang ta hapit kakita…and those tanods and armies akong gilalis kay mas considerate pa sila sa mga koreans kaysa mga balikbayans or just plain civilians. I told them should I wear a balikbayan tag? Dugay na baya tawon mi wa kakita ug sinulog, hay paeta!
Anyways Pit Senyor sad nimo Dong and to some readers!
