The Pacquiao Effect

We Filipinos can easily find something to fight about. We fight about TV networks, political figures, or just any random issue we find interesting. Strangely, whenever we see Manny punching or getting punched,  we become one and we forget our differences and misunderstandings. Hahaha. We’re funny like that.

The Pacquiao-Cotto fight was such a huge deal in Cebu City (and in almost all Philippine cities, I believe. LOL). Like all other Pacquiao fights in the past, this one, as expected, was a phenomenon. Non-gamblers were placing bets, the streets were empty, and people were huddled around their TV sets at home. And more importantly, for a few short hours, we were on the same side and were shouting one name. Don’t you just wish Manny’s fights were on primetime TV every single night? LOL.

Here are some photos that I took during the Pacquiao-Cotto fight telecast.

———————————

Escario Street. Where’d everybody go? Hahaha.

Jone’s Avenue. Anybody home?

Fuente Area. Kamingaw. Haha.

Capitol area. This jeepney driver is not interested. Hahaha.

Gen. Max aka Mango Avenue. Kamingaw. Hahaha.

Happy Meals Plaza shuttle service. If you want to watch the fight PPV.

No. They’re not there for the food. Hahaha.

SM City Cebu Carpark. This was already around 1 pm.

Congrats to the main man! Mabuhi ka Pacman! We’re proud of you! (internet photo)

  1. I wanted to go out and a take pictures of Dumaguete’s streets too! But the fight was over before I could get out of the house, tsk tsk! Pero it is true, when there’s a Pacquiao match everyone stays home, the streets are deserted and crime goes down, hehe!

  2. Hahahahahaha….pareha jud nga sitwasyon kon dunay world cup sa soccer diri sa Italy mingaw kaayo ang mga karsada! Sus paeta kadlawon pa mi diri magmata kay mag atang sa match!

  3. Hooray to Manny P.! This guy has charisma, he can turn a place into a ghost town. Filipinos are very proud of him. Keep up the good work, Manny. 🙂

  4. The streets look like Good Friday.

Next up, Floyd, if he isn’t too chicken to face Manny.

I don’t think he “may weather” the Pacquiao Typhoon!

  5. yuh base sa record sa mga police atong fight ni pacman, walang case sa kawat, krimin at mga road accident..kay loag kaayo ang traffic atong adlawa..go pacman..pilipino pa lang ang nakakuha ug 7 world title sa different divisions 7th division..he’s the one great, famous and legendary boxer kabilang na nya sila armstrong and muhhamad ali sa boxing history..proud to be pinoy..dugong pinoy, may agimat ang dugo..hehehehe

  7. My mother is a fans of Manny too. Their house is crowded w/ neighbors to watch the fight. I can’t watch boxing due to its hurting each other.

  8. ako gyud nakita ang laban ni pacman mula sa umpisa sa under card to main event..sad to say lang na my isang pilipino boxer na nagka blood clut sa ulo c Z Gorres..pnalo nga pero tapos na ang career nya bilang isa sana sa susunod sa yapak ni pacman..pero pagdating sa Main event which is pacman and cotto hiyawaan na ang mga tao pag pasok ni pacman, kasi gustong gusto nila pag c pacman ang my laban kasi d sila bibiguin, then pag umpisa ng laban hanggang bumagsak sa 3rd round and 4th round c cotto hiyawan ang mga tao..hanggang pag dating ng 12 rounds tinigil na sa referee ang laban TKO,sigawan na naman ang mga tao..na We want Mayweather..grabe talaga sulit talaga ang panood ko grabe, bilib na ako ni pacman,sa aking pananaw kung mag ka harap man sila ni mayweather ang predict ko is 10 round TKO ang labas ni mayweather..
