I visited the Mactan Island Aquarium today. It is located in Baranggay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City. I’ve heard about this place a few months ago but I was a bit busy so I wasn’t able to check it out right away. Last week, the owner of the place left a comment here in MCPB telling me to check out the place and probably feature it here.
Mactan Island Aquarium is similar to Manila’s Ocean Park. It has fish tanks lined up in galleries. It also features different species of fish – both saltwater and freshwater. The place has real sharks, too! MIA is only occupying the basement. However, the space is big enough for dozens of fish tanks, a small restaurant, an art area for kids, and an open tank for the baby sharks.
Anyways, I’d like to apologize for the photos. Honestly, I took more than 120 photos, but only around 40 were useful. Shooting with flash is not allowed and the fishes moved real fast. Since the shutter speed of my camera is quite slow, my shots were either too dark or too blurry. Hehe.
A spider crab. This dude wasn’t moving at all. So the photo is a bit clear. Hehe.
To get to Mactan Island Aquarium, just drive straight (from the first bridge) until you see this sign.
Then, you will see this peculiar-looking building.
There’s the MIA logo.

Actually, I think this closed down. Naa man sila dispute sa building owner…mao na ang rumors.
But they are transferring to a bigger place in Maribago. I just don’t know where ang exact location and when sila mag open.
I actually find your comments FUNNY. By the way, I’ve just been to the new Mactan Island Aquarium. It is now in the main highway of Maribago. It is now a drive further down Basak from the old bridge, past the previous aquarium building, past the hospital, then turn left at the corner where a new mall is being built, then left again when you reach the highway. The aquarium is just right after EGI to your right. I think Leylander, you should visit that place again and take more fantastic photos. They have loads of beautiful corals there now, out in their garden. With the sun shining, it’s just a sight to behold. I sure wish someone with your talent can take a photo of some of them and post them publicly. Cheers
abi nmu nag close na ang aquarium ? lagota oi ,,, pa anha nmu mactan ana mga tao dha nga wala na aquarium ,, hahay , paits oi ,,nag lagot lang aku bf ,, ky kalayu layu ba sa mactan nya g tuyuan ra nmu nha para mak anha aquarium .. hmm , so bad ,jud ! as man jud ang exact place ana? , pwdi maka ayu ug contact number para naa mk guide nmu ,, we look forward for that ,, thank you !!
