Punta Engaño in Mactan is Breathtaking

On the northern tip of of Mactan Island lies Punta Engaño – a small undisturbed fishing community far from the hustle and bustle of tourist destinations like Maribago and Marigondon. Unlike these places which boast of pearly white beaches, Punta is rocky, rugged and unpolished. The coast is mostly made up of steep rock formations and bushy beaches. However, this fact does not make Punta Engaño hugely unwanted. Not at all! Instead, it is what makes it stand out from the rest. Punta Engaño is the last stretch of ‘pure paradise’, I’d like to call it.

I know these photos won’t give justice to the real beauty of Punta Engaño. However, I hope that you get the idea. Because I was there. And I loved it!

The breathtaking coast of Punta Engaño.

Fishing boats and rocky beaches. What an awesome view.

Gian trying to conquer these rocks. Foreshadowing of his future interests, perhaps?

The rocky beaches make Punta a truly unique swimming destination.

Gian explaining the importance of the rocks. I wasn’t paying attention. Haha!

No photo-ops are complete without Satchmo posing for some shots.

A couple of friendly goats trying to get as close as possible.

According to one of the locals we saw in the area, this is what remains of a ‘fish farm.’

A cute green boat docked for the day in Punta Engano.

The dirt road which leads to some of the few houses in the area.

The Hilton Towers are visible from the beach here.

A little tree and a nice-looking lantay underneath it. Imagine spending a long breezy late afternoon here!

  1. It’s lovely! Satchmo is a lucky dude. I wonder if Gian knows the Dano family (pronounced Danyo), in Opon? They’re my friends.

  2. Gian, if you happen to know & meet my wonderful friends; Pepe, Ruben, Julieta & the rest of the family, kindly give my regards to them. Thanks! I’ll see them in December. I’ll be everywhere in Cebu then.=) And see you too! LOL

  3. Hi ianne,

Oh, I know those guys although I think it would be my dad who would be better acquainted with them.

Sige, I’ll tell them. And I’ll see you too.

Lander, let’s go out again kerpal. Di ba we are planning to go to Liloan?

  4. i remember when that area used to be just trees! after you cross the old toll bridge, it used to be all trees, shrubs or wide open space especially around the Lapu Lapu shrine area. i can’t even picture it in my head anymore…ah the changes. let’s hope it’s for the better.

INDAY MYRNA: make sure you go to Kaubian Dako instead. there’s really nothing in Kaubian Gamay, just a ton of homes stuffed in this tiny island. and it’s all bonbon too. no cement roads, no hard ground, nothing!

and don’t go there around fiesta time either, unless you don’t mind the lack of sleep. the sound of pigs being slaughtered will definitely keep you up!
(and yes i realize my comment is a bit late but i just discovered this site a few months back)

  10. I’m not sure but according to Skyscraper City, the whole tip of Punta Engano is going to be developed to a subdivision. I think the name is Discovery Bay and Resorts.

    Check the link: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=545075

Then there’s another massive development called Amisa, a project of Robinsons consisting of condominium towers and hotels.

    Check this link: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=538933

Punta Engano will never be the same again!

      1. Ay, mao ba? I have to check it out. For the past few YEARS, kutob ra ko Mactan Shrine. Ang pinakalast nako na naabot sa Punta Engano tip is when these pics were taken. Hehehe

  11. Updates: I went there with my dad to check out Amisa.

The whole tip of Punta Engano is now closed na. It’s gated and fenced for the development of Discovery Bay. Before these developments, the area used to be traversed by fisherfolk.

A question my dad was raving though due to the closure: did the developers of Discovery Bay and Amisa buy the shoreline? He thought it was supposed to be government property…

  12. @Gian

hi, i used to own a beach lot property in Discovery Bay for 3yrs, thanks God, i sold it last year, i think the developer of DB is a big F R A U D! yes, they were selling the area but failed to inform the buyers that the development was still on lien….. i lost alot of money from that property!
