Liloan’s (Bagacay Point) Parola: Guiding Sailors Since 1904

The Bagacay Point, more popularly known among locals as the Parola, is a lighthouse in the Municipality of Liloan which is considered one of the most important heritage structures in Cebu. The Parola has appeared in countless infomercials, promotional photoshoots, music videos, and of course, personal blogs. So, here I am with MY very OWN personal experience of the Parola.

I’m so glad they kept the place clean and tourist-friendly. Thanks and congratulations, Liloan!

The iconic Parola of Liloan.

Bagacay Point is a major lighthouse which can be seen even from the Island of Mactan on the other side of the channel.

The Parola, which was built in 1904, was named a historical site in 2004.

The heritage marker sits right next to the Parola.

The sign 1904 can be seen etched above the door of the lighthouse.

The lighthouse is solar-powered which makes it even more awesome.

Here are more shots of the Parola of the town of Liloan.

A nice two-story structure can be seen several meters from the lighthouse. I’m not sure exactly what it is. But I’d like to believe it is a house where the lighthouse keepers live.

The green field just below the parola.

The road to the parola looking nice and clean.

The parola as seen from afar.

I also chanced upon famous local band FASTPITCH doing a photo-shoot. How cool!

  1. si-awa nimo land oi, (pretending nalibang o tinuod ba, joke2) hahaha. hakhak lage ko katawa dre. it reminds me when i was young anyway. agoy!!! GINOO. kana ba magpasi-aw sad ka usahay. i had a good laughter. laughter is a good medicine, diba? how old kaha ng calachuchi no? nice pics land,

  2. ^^yes. the place is open (even at night, i suppose).

    To get there:

When you reach liloan (from cebu city) through the national road, you will see that ‘fake’ parola in front of the liloan town church. If you notice, there’s an inner road behind it (left side of the church). just follow that road. you will pass by the bridge (baranggay catarman). keep heading straight until you see the ‘To Amarra’ sign on the left side of the road. Keep an eye on that sign. Follow that road until it ends. It will lead you to the Parola.

Let us know about your trip, ok?

    All the luck. =)

  6. Me and my daughter were there last month for vacation. Taga Catarman man pod ko gikan. My father Enrigue Gulfan was a headlightkeeper for many years until the day he retired. During his time of servicing there was a separated building called Camarin. It was a big home with an over looking view sa dagat. As a matter of fact my parents used to live at Camarin house before I was born in 1963.
I left Catarman Lilo-an to United States back in 1985. So I’ve been in USA for twenty two years…has a family of my own a home, two daughters and grandchildren. But Catarman will always be my home forever and my father Mr. Enrigue Gulfan will always be proud of the Bagacay Lighthouse.

  7. diba, mao man ni nga site ang gi develop sa Ayala? ang kana ilang Amara Development…..nindot pod bitaw sa liloan, hilabi na kanang ilang bisyo matag dominggo nga mag display ug baligya anang ilang makalaway nga kinilaw, sinugba, lambay, nukos, ug uban pa. . .

  8. unsa imo gigamit nga editing tools nice kaau ang mga pic, nay karaan nay black and white naay colored…adobe premiere or final cut studio

  9. I remember my student days (again) sa public health at Velez. Sus inighuman namog bisita sa pasyente, mani-udto usa, unya balikon to namong pasyente nga hayahay kaayo ug payag para among katulgan ug kadiyot (siesta). Kalami sa kinabuhi adtong panahuna.

Ley, duna sad ni sila’y specialty dish dinhing dapita sa Liloan (Acoje). Lami ang ilang budbud, nganlan ug tinambiran.
    Have you guys tried it?

  10. Inig ka develop unya diha sa maong lugar, I hope dili madaot ang scenery. Except sa lumad taga Liloan, ambot kon may nasayod pa nga ang area was also known as the Acoje.
If I remembered right, there was a remnant of another structure at the edge overlooking the sea that looked like a small watch tower or an older lighthouse. I miss the place.

  11. Nice pics.. Nearby that lighthouse is a fishing spot. Less than 10 minutes from there in Lilo-an. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting the lighthouse. I go there often with my family. Their contact number is 09157966186.

  13. All the trees in the lighthouse are now fully-grown. The second lighthouse though is in danger of crumbling yet again. There is also a new Sugba-Sugba sa Parola now that is sponsored by the Municipality itself where people can have fun and enjoy a cool drink with the sea breeze blowing on their faces. 🙂
